COVID-19 update: Local leaders to hold Sunday press conference

A press conference Sunday afternoon with officials from city and county government, health experts and emergency departments will address the next steps local leaders are taking in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Saturday, state health officials announced an additional 60 confirmed cases in the state of Mississippi, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the state to 140 as of Friday evening.

As of the last report, there are still no confirmed cases reported in Warren County, but a number of tests have been performed and are awaiting results. The Mississippi State Department of Health has not yet provided the number of tests performed in Warren County specifically, reporting only statewide testing totals.

Sunday’s press conference will be restricted to credentialed media and those government and health officials who are on the agenda to speak to comply with federal health guidelines. City officials said the restrictions will be strictly enforced by the Vicksburg Police Department.

The press conference, set for 2 p.m., will be broadcast live on The Vicksburg Post’s Facebook page in its entirety.
