Crime reports: Vicksburg man faces drug, gun charges

A Vicksburg man is facing drug and gun possession charges after he reported to police his home had been shot into, but when they arrived, they discovered more than holes in a home.

Saturday, at 3:31 a.m. officers with the Vicksburg Police Department, contacted Darren Mazie, 34, of Vicksburg, who reported that his home on Wisconsin Avenue had been shot into. 

While looking for bullet homes inside the house, officers saw bags containing over 100 grams of marijuana. They also discovered that Mazie, a convicted felon, was also in possession of a loaded handgun.

Mazie was arrested for felony possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a felon.

In other reports:

• On Friday, at 11:27 p.m., officers responded to the area of 2nd Street and National Street in reference to shots fired. Officers circulated the area and found no evidence of shots fired.

• On Sunday, at 1:48 a.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in reference to shots fired. Officers circulated the area and found no evidence of shots fired.

• On Sunday, at 3:53 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Hillside Drive in reference to a theft. The victim reported someone went into her glove box and stole her 9mm Taurus handgun. The vehicle had been left unlocked during the previous night.

• On Sunday, at 9:12 p.m., officers responded to the area of Cherry Street at East Avenue in reference to shots fired. Officers saw no signs of suspicious activity, nor evidence of shots fired.
