A 15-year-old teenager faces a charge of possession of a stolen firearm following an investigation by Vicksburg Police into the reported accidental shooting of another teen.

The wounded teen, who is also 15, was shot in the back of the head. He was taken by helicopter to University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition. The teens’ names were not released because of their ages.

The shooting occurred about 5:21 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Demby Drive. During the investigation into the shooting, officers determined it was accidental, but took the 15-year-old suspect into custody after learning the gun was reported stolen in an April 2 auto burglary at the Rivertown Campground. Another juvenile has also been arrested in the case.
