John Carrolton Smith

John Carrolton Smith died Friday, April 10, 2020, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 62.

A native of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late C. Warfield Smith and Corean Pinkston Smith.

He was a 1976 graduate of St. Aloysius High School and a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Mississippi College. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed Ole Miss sports, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He was employed by the city of Vicksburg as the city auditor for 18 years and by Warren County as the county administrator for the past 15 years, retiring in 2019.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Bagby Smith; his maternal grandparents, John Murray Pinkston and Corean Stafford Pinkston; his paternal grandparents, Minnie Devore and Bert Smith; a brother, Timothy Miers Smith; and three nephews, Hudson Stafford Smith, Chade S. McCardle, and Michael Perrier.

He is survived by three daughters, Torri Ghrigsby (Jay), Morgan Haden (Kyle), and Lauren Smith; three grandchildren, Kate Shelton, Jack Shelton, and Nick Shelton; his siblings, James W. Smith (Melanie), Carl W. Smith Jr. (Stacey), Susan S. Perrier, Corean S. McCardle, Steven D. Smith (Amy), and David S. Smith (Ashley), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

A full celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
