OXFORD — Ole Miss football fans will no longer have to worry about leaving their football tickets at home.

Ole Miss announced Wednesday that it will get rid of traditional paper tickets and launch a digital-only ticketing system for the 2020 football season.

The university’s athletics department said in a release that the move was both a safety measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to help with a number of logistical issues related to handling the tickets.

“In addition to eliminating the physical touching concerns that are prevalent at this time, digital ticketing will reduce frequent issues related to paper tickets, including theft, shipping delays, tickets lost in transit and the need for an early confirmation of a shipping address,” Ole Miss said in its release.

The season ticket renewal deadline has been extended to June 15, with seat and parking selection set to begin June 29. Ticket distribution will begin via email in mid-August.

The purchasing period for Ole Miss students has been suspended until July.

Fans that have already ordered their 2020 season tickets will maintain their orders and payment plans already in place. More information will be coming about parking and ticket delivery for premium, general and other season ticket holders as it is finalized, the university said.

Once the digital system is implemented, fans will still be able to post and sell tickets via Stubhub and transfer tickets through their phones.

“Gameday experience will always be a top priority and a point of pride for our department, and this is an opportunity to utilize the latest technology to ensure a safe and convenient process for ticket delivery and stadium entrance,” Keith Carter, Ole Miss Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics, said in a release.

Ole Miss’ home opener is currently scheduled for Sept. 12 against Southeast Missouri State. Its Southeastern Conference opener is also at home, on Sept. 19 against Auburn. The rest of the home schedule includes dates with Alabama, Florida, Connecticut, Georgia Southern and Mississippi State.
