Confirmed cases in Warren County again increases

Mississippi State Health Department officials announced Friday morning during a press conference with Gov. Tate Reeves that COVID-19 coronavirus cases and deaths continue to grow in the state.

The state reported 169 new cases to bring the total to 3,793 total cases. Friday’s report indicates the 9th straight day that new cases topped 100.

In Warren County, the number of cases increased to 17 overall, up one from Thursday.

Wednesday, state health officials reported the first virus-related death in Warren County. In Friday’s reporting, the state said an additional 11 people died statewide since Thursday, bringing the death total to 140.

Merit Health River Region confirmed Friday it treating two patients with COVID-19.

“Merit Health River Region is currently caring for two COVID-19 positive patients,” Merit Health River Region CEO Ben Richaud said. “I am saddened to share that three of our patients have died despite the valiant work done by our caregiving team. We are deeply saddened and extend our deepest sympathies to their family and loved ones.”

In Claiborne County, the number of confirmed cases remained at eight, while the number in Hinds County grew to 314.

Sharkey County also remained at three, while Issaquena County has yet to report its first case.

In Yazoo County, state officials report 81 cases.
