Crime reports: Police report two felony arrests by department’s NET team

With the help of one of the department’s K-9 officers, the Vicksburg Police Department arrested a Vicksburg man who now faces a charge of gun possession by a convicted felon.

The arrest took place Wednesday when officers with the department’s Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) approached a suspicious vehicle at the Fastway Smoke Break, 1217 Cherry Street.

After the K-9 officer alerted other officers to the presence of narcotics, a search of the vehicle revealed approximately 10 grams of marijuana and two handguns.

Tyler Mixon, 20, of Vicksburg, was charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

He appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter in Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday, where his bond was set at $10,000 and his case was bound over to the Warren County grand jury.

In another felony arrest report, officers with the NET team stopped a suspicious vehicle Thursday on Second North Street.

The driver, 27-year-old DeMichael Jones, of Vicksburg, was found to be in possession of approximately one gram of cocaine.

Jones also appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter, where he was charged with possession of cocaine. His bond was set at $40,000 and his case was bound over to the Warren County grand jury.

In other reports:

On Thursday, at 12:41 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Jefferson Street in reference to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found no evidence of shots being fired.

• On Thursday, at 7:44 p.m., officers responded to an address on Miller Street in reference to shots fired. The complainant reported he heard about 10 shots fired but did not see anyone shooting.  No evidence of shots being fired was found.
