Number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Warren County spikes

The number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Warren County saw its largest single-day increase Friday as officials with the Mississippi State Department of Health released new statewide numbers.

The number of cases in Warren County now stands at 39, an increase of seven new cases since Thursday.

The largest one-day increase had previously been four, which was reported earlier in the week.

Overall, the number of cases statewide grew to 5,434, an increase of 281 cases. The number of virus-related deaths in Mississippi grew by eight, totaling 209 overall.

The number of virus-related deaths in Warren County remains at two.

The number of cases in Claiborne County grew by one overnight to 13. Wednesday, officials with the state and the University of Mississippi Medical Center conducted a one-day test event in Port Gibson. The results of those tests should be reported in 7-to-10 days.

Hinds County reported Friday 401 confirmed cases with six virus-related deaths.

Issaquena remains the only county in Mississippi to not yet report a confirmed case. Sharkey County now has four confirmed cases.

Yazoo County as of Thursday had 117 cases and one virus-related death.
