With its first E-sports tournament a resounding success, the Mid-South Association of Independent Schools is going to run it back for a younger set of players.

Building upon the success of its recent high school Fortnite tournament, the MAIS announced that it will conduct another for middle school students in grades 5-8.

Registration is open until midnight on Tuesday, April 28, and is limited to the first 180 people who sign up. Players must be a student at an MAIS member school.

Brackets will be posted on the MAIS website and on Twitter and Facebook by noon on Wednesday, April 29. Participants should be prepared to play Wednesday evening if placed in the Wednesday brackets.

Participants will not be divided by grade or classification. All 180 registered participants will be placed in a 15-player bracket and assigned a competition time at random. Each bracket winner will advance to the overall competition on Tuesday, May 5.

The tournament will feature one-on-one single elimination matches in Fortnite’s creative mode. Games will be played in a best 2-of-3 style. The loser is eliminated from the bracket, while winners advance. More rules are available at msais.org under the “Bulletin Board” tab.

The initial brackets will play each day from April 29-May 4 at 6 p.m., with one exception. The May 2 bracket on Saturday will begin play at 3 p.m.

All competitions will be broadcast live on the MAIS Twitch account https://www.twitch.tv/maisttv. Nearly 1,000 people watched the high school tournament that was held earlier this month.

The overall winner of the middle school tournament will receive a $100 scholarship, and the runner-up a $50 scholarship.
