While the number of active COVID-19 cases in Warren County has trended lower, the past 11 days have been the deadliest of the pandemic.

Friday, Warren County reported its eighth virus-related death, the fourth since May 19. And, Friday’s death announcement also marks the sixth death connected to one of the county’s long-term care facilities.

Overall, Warren County announced four new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total reported during the pandemic to 163. Of those cases, though, only 26 should be considered active cases.

In Claiborne County, the number of positive cases continued its recent rise. As of Friday, the county was reporting 72 cases, with two virus-related deaths.

Yazoo County reported a total of 239 cases Friday with four virus-related deaths. Across the river, Madison Parish reported 79 confirmed cases.

Sharkey County remained at seven cases Friday, with Issaquena County remaining the only county in the state to not yet report a positive COVID-19 case.

Overall, the state reported an additional 418 new cases, but that number is consistent with reports on Fridays that have seen larger numbers due to some private labs providing weekly updates on positive cases rather than reporting daily. Those 418 new cases moves the number reported during the pandemic in the state to 14,790.

The state also reported an additional 17 deaths — one of which was from Warren County. Those deaths bring the total deaths connected to the virus to 710 statewide.
