The Mississippi State Department of Health announced Monday the state set a record they did not want to reach.

In its daily reporting of new COVID-19 cases and deaths, the state announced a record one-day total of 498 new cases and 20 virus-related deaths.

Of those new cases and deaths, Warren County saw eight new cases, and for the second day in a row, announced a new virus-related death. In all, since the start of the pandemic in mid-March, Warren County has now reported 214 COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths.

Over the past two weeks, the county has reported 60 COVID-19 cases and five deaths.

The statewide numbers during the pandemic now stand at 17,768 cases and 837 deaths.

In Monday’s report, the number of cases in Yazoo County moved to 310 overall and six deaths. Claiborne County’s numbers inched higher, moving to 127 cases and seven deaths.

Sharkey County has continued to report seven cases during the pandemic, all of which are now presumed recovered.

As for Warren County’s numbers, the state is still reporting 38 cases connected to long-term health facilities with eight of the county’s 12 deaths coming from long-term care facilities.

To the west of Warren County, in Madison Parish, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has significantly jumped in recent days. As of Monday, Louisiana state health officials announced the parish has now reported 214 total cases.
