Warren County sets an unwanted mark during COVID-19 pandemic

The past seven days have been the worst for Warren County in regards to new COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in mid-March.

Late Tuesday, state health officials announced nine new confirmed cases in Warren County. That is the third-highest one-day total of new cases since the start of the pandemic and gives the county 42 new cases over the past seven days.

The new cases also push the estimated active case total to 53 cases. Overall, 223 cases have been confirmed in Warren County during the pandemic which began in Mississippi on March 11.

In its report Tuesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 341 new cases statewide and 10 additional virus-related deaths. The new cases push the total number reported during the pandemic to 18,109 with 847 deaths.

In Claiborne County, the number of cases moved to 129 overall with seven virus-related deaths. State health officials announced Tuesday a one-day test site will be in Claiborne County Monday at the Claiborne County Parks and Recreation office at 1120 Highway 61 North in Port Gibson from noon to 4 p.m.

Yazoo County now reports 321 cases and six virus-related deaths, while Sharkey County’s seven reported cases are now considered presumed recovered.

Issaquena County remains the only county in the state to not yet report a positive case.
