Just before 5:30 a.m. Friday, a Nissan Sentra traveling north on U.S. 61 North reportedly struck and killed a pedestrian near Family Dollar and Merit Health River Region.

According to reports from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, for unknown reasons, the pedestrian, identified as Max F. Smith, 57, of Yazoo City, crossed into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.
