The Vicksburg Kiwanis Club recently awarded $8,000 in scholarships to nine seniors, who were members of the three Key Clubs sponsored by the club.

Because of the social gathering restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus, the Kiwanis Club was as unable to gather the winners together for a presentation.

Vicksburg High School graduates receiving scholarships were Khyrean Jones ($1,500), Kameren Batty ($1,000), J’Meiha Allen ($750), Heather Henderson ($500), Andreya McGee ($500) and Ahria Reynolds ($500).

Logan Sanderford, from River City Early College, received a $1,500 scholarship.

Porter’s Chapel Academy graduates Hannah Embry ($1,500) and Maddie Henderson ($750) were also honored.

Selection of the winners — who all must plan to attend an institute of higher learning — was based on their contributions through their Key Club activities, school activities, community activities, church activities, and leadership positions the students took in those activities.

Any special financial needs the students might have were also considered.
