Vicksburg man reportedly shot on Locust Street early Wednesday

The details of what, when and why are still unknown at this time, but a Vicksburg man is recovering from a gunshot wound received early Wednesday.

According to the Vicksburg Police Department, officers responded to Merit Health River Region in reference to a gunshot victim who had been transported by a personal vehicle around 1 a.m.

The victim, a black male, had received a gunshot wound to the inside of his left leg near the knee. According to reports, the victim said the shooting took place on the 400 block of Locust Street.

The victim was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. His condition is not known.

Officials with the Vicksburg Police Department said the shooting remains under investigation. The identity of the victim was not released.
