Greatest on the Gridiron: ’01 Vicksburg vs. ’06 Porter’s Chapel

The Porter’s Chapel Academy Eagles punched above their weight in 2006, finishing 10-4 and reaching the MAIS Class AA semifinals after getting to the Class A semifinals a year before. They showed the same kind of grit in the Greatest on the Gridiron tournament by beating the 1977 St. Aloysius Flashes on a coin flip tiebreaker.

The teams traded the lead several times over six days of online voting, and PCA wound up with a one-vote lead when polls closed at noon on July 9. One paper ballot with a vote for St. Al, however, was received on July 8 and brought the matchup back to a 129-129 tie. PCA won the coin flip to advance.
