The ‘93 Vikings squeaked past their 1988 predecessors that won the MHSAA Class 5A championship by a single vote, 52-51, in the opening round.

In 1993, the Vikings won their first 14 games — only two of them by less than 10 points — and set a single-season school record by scoring 492 points. They reached the Class 5A final before losing 42-28 to South Panola in a game many observers consider one of the best state title games ever played.
