Greatest on the Gridiron: ’05 Porter’s Chapel vs. ’84 Vicksburg

The Eagles Region was upset central in the first round of the Greatest on the Gridiron tournament, with both of the top two seeds exiting early.

The 1984 Vicksburg Gators were ranked No. 1 in the state at one time, and beat one of the No. 1 seeds in this tournament by knocking off 1955 Carr Central 38-32 in a low-scoring matchup that mirrored their real-life counterparts. The ‘84 Gators only allowed 39 points in 10 regular-season games.

The 2005 Porter’s Chapel Eagles were also centered on defense. They allowed a total of 10 points and no offensive touchdowns in their first 11 games while reaching the MAIS Class A semifinals.

In the Greatest tournament, PCA held off the 1938 St. Aloysius Flashes by a score of 114-84.
