Greatest on the Gridiron: ’70 Temple vs. ’93 Vicksburg

Published 9:02 am Sunday, July 12, 2020

The 1970 Temple Buccaneers finished a 39-game unbeaten streak — it included two ties — with a 6-0 victory over New Orleans powerhouse St. Augustine in the Red Carpet Bowl. They started their run in the Greatest on the Gridiron tournament with a much more comfortable 83-34 victory over 2016 Warren Central.

Led by quarterback William Wooley (1,784 yards and 28 touchdown passes in 1970), the Buccaneers are a formidable opponent for any era — which is appropriate, since their next one in the Greatest tournament comes from 23 years later.
