Masks will be required in Vicksburg businesses and public buildings starting Saturday

One day after saying he would consider a mask mandate in the city of Vicksburg, Mayor George Flaggs Jr. is implementing one beginning Saturday.

Tuesday, Flaggs said the mask mandate puts the responsibility on local businesses and those managing public buildings to make sure employees and customers adhere to the mask mandate that begins Saturday and continues through Aug. 3.

Flaggs said the mandate will require businesses to require customers to wear masks before entering the businesses and requires employees interacting with customers to also wear a mask. Also, employees in businesses that cannot social distance from one another are also required to wear a mask.

Monday, Flaggs, in a meeting with local health officials and Dr. Jeff Holland, the president of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, said he was considering instituting a mask mandate.

Flaggs will go through the full details of the changes to the city’s COVID-19 civil emergency order, including the creation of a special crime task force and introducing the city’s new compliance officer, during a press conference Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., which can be seen on The Vicksburg Post’s Facebook page.
