Funeral services for Eugene Erwin Sr. will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Interment is to follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, from 6 to 7 p.m. with social guidelines strictly observed for the visitation and funeral service.

Eugene Erwin Sr. passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020, following a lengthy illness. He was 79. He was retired from the Vicksburg National Military Park. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Christopher and Bettie Porte Erwin; his brothers, Walter Erwin and Percy Erwin; and sister, Mary Ella Erwin-Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel B. Erwin of Vicksburg; his six sons, Roosevelt Brown, Joseph Nelson Brown Sr., Douglas Wayne Erwin Sr., Walter Earl Erwin, all of Vicksburg, Eugene Erwin Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., and  David Darnell Erwin of Madison; his four daughters, Cheryl Brown, Betty Louise Erwin, Mary Catherine Erwin all of Vicksburg, and Faye Ann Brown-Carson of Jackson; his brother, Joseph Erwin of Enterprise, Ala; his two sisters, Bettie Blake of Carson, Calif. and Rosie Lawson of Compton, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
