Estimated active cases in Warren County drop slightly

Twelve new COVID-19 cases were reported in Warren County Thursday, pushing Warren County past 1,000 cases so far during the months-long pandemic.

Overall, since the first case was reported in Warren County on March 29, the county has now seen 1,007 cases and 31 virus-related deaths. Thursday was the first day this week in which Warren County had not reported a death. The previous four days had seen six deaths reported in all.

With the new cases, Warren County now shows 200 estimated active cases. That figure is down from a week ago, when the county reached a high of 257 active cases.

In the latest report, there are now 90 cases connected to one of the county’s long-term care facilities, with 14 of the 31 deaths coming from residents of those facilities.

As for the state, 956 new cases and 21 deaths were reported Thursday. So far, the state has reported 64,400 cases and 1,825 virus-related deaths since the statewide pandemic began with the first case reported near Hattiesburg on March 11.

Yazoo County reported 807 total cases Thursday with 12 deaths, while Sharkey County lists 190 cases and three deaths. Claiborne County’s case total inched higher, now totaling 399  with 13 deaths. Issaquena County, the last county in the state to report a positive case, has now reported 25 cases and one death.
