Porter’s Chapel Academy hung with Cathedral on Thursday night, but couldn’t quite keep pace in a softball slugfest at Sports Force Parks.

Allie Feltus went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Koleman Grace Fisher had two hits and drove in a run, and Cathedral outlasted PCA 9-6.

PCA scored three runs in the fouth inning, on an RBI double by Emily Collins and a two-run triple by Sophie Masterson, to cut a five-run deficit to 6-4.

Lily Crum hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning, however, to give Cathedral some breathing room. PCA scored runs in the fifth and seventh innings but also left two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh.

Marley Bufkin led PCA’s offense by going 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Six of the team’s nine starters had one hit each.

The Lady Eagles’ record fell to 1-4. They beat Park Place Christian 17-11 on Tuesday — Regan Thornell had four hits and scored four runs — but dropped three other games in the first week of the season.

PCA will return to action Saturday in a tournament at Hartfield Academy in Flowood.
