Warren County reported its 32nd death related to COVID-19 Friday, and the seventh death this month.

The one virus-related death was among 23 reported statewide by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

The reported death comes along with 26 new confirmed cases of the virus, but Friday’s report continues a recent trend of falling totals in the county. Over the past week, the county’s ratio of cases per 100,000 residents has dropped from 576 on July 30 to 426 on Friday.

The slide in that ratio has moved the county farther away from being considered a virus hot spot by state health officials.

Since the first Warren County case was reported on March 29, the county has seen 1,033 cases.

The state reported 1,036 new cases overall, giving Mississippi a total of 65,436 cases and 1,848 deaths. The state’s first case was reported on March 11. Mississippi ranks 12th in the country in the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, and 14th in confirmed deaths.

In Yazoo County, the total number of cases reached 815 with 12 deaths Friday, while Claiborne County reported 398 cases and 13 deaths overall. Sharkey County is now reporting 194 cases and four deaths. Issaquena County, which was the last county in the state to report a positive case, reported 25 cases overall with one death.
