Carolyn Weaver Koestler

Carolyn Weaver Koestler, of Vicksburg, passed away in her home Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020. She was 82 years old.

She was born in Vicksburg and lived in the Mississippi Delta and Mobile, Ala. as a child. But, she was a resident of Vicksburg most of her adult life.

Ms. Koestler graduated from Carr Central High School and studied at Hinds Junior College where she was a member of the Hinds High-Stepper precision dance line team. She married Leo V. Koestler Jr. of Vicksburg and together they had five children, all boys.

Ms. Koestler retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Personnel Department. After retirement, she continued to work; including a stint at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Vicksburg. She was an avid cook and gardener who loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo V. Koestler Jr.; her parents, James Benjamin Weaver and Lena Norene Weaver; her son, James “Barney” Koestler Sr.; and grandsons, Zachary Koestler and Brad Millett.

She is survived by her brother, Keith W. Weaver (Robert) of Albuquerque, N.M.; sons, Mike Koestler (Diane) of Eagle Lake, Pat Koestler (Mimi) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Leo V. Koestler, III of Vicksburg, and Chris Koestler (Ashley) of Ridgeland; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way) and numerous cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Godfrey officiating, under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. A short visitation will be held before and after the service.

Pallbearers will be James B. Koestler Jr., Benjamin Lee Koestler, Britton Michael Koestler, Trenton Wayne Koestler, Jared Henke and Keith W Weaver.
