YMCA cheerleading
Registration for the Vicksburg YMCA’s 2020 cheerleading program is open through Sept. 4. The program is for girls ages 7-11, and offers them the chance to cheer for a team and represent their school. They will attend a cheer camp at the beginning of the season, and finish the year with a competition.
The cost is $60 for YMCA members and $70 for non-members, and includes uniforms. Parents can register their children in person at the Purks YMCA or online at vicksburgymca.com.

YMCA football
Registration for the Vicksburg YMCA’s 2020 flag football season is now open and will continue until Sept. 1. The league is open to players in kindergarten through sixth grade, and will be broken up into several age divisions.

The registration fee is $50 for YMCA members and $70 for non-members. Parents can register their children at the Purks YMCA, online at vicksburgymca.com, or by calling 601-638-1071.

Bowling leagues forming
Fall bowling leagues are forming at Fun Lanes, with organizational meetings and competition scheduled in early September.
The organizational meeting for the Tuesday Night Open League is Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., and competition begins Sept. 8. This league is open to all adult bowlers 18 and older.

The Fun Lanes Seniors League will begin competition on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. after a brief meeting. This league is for bowlers ages 50 and older, and will compete for 18 weeks.
The Cannonball Bowling League is for bowlers 18 and over. It will have its meeting on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., and begin play on Sept. 10.

All bowlers must purchase a USBC sanction card for the 2020-21 season. The cost is $21 for the season and is valid in all leagues bowled. Cards may be purchased online thru bowl.com or thru the league on the first night of competition.

VHS softball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High School’s fast-pitch softball team will be held Friday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the VHS Softball Swamp field on Army Navy Drive. Players must be at the field by 6 p.m. to register, and the tryouts will go from 6:30 to 8:30.

The tryouts are for players in grades 7-12. All players will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival, and they must have a current physical and a copy of their physical form. Players must also bring their own glove, cleats or tennis shows, softball or sweat pants, water and helmet if available.

M-Braves movie night
The Mississippi Braves will host a movie night at Trustmark Park on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. The featured film will be the 2010 animated comedy, “Despicable Me.”

Tickets are $8 for general admission seating that allows fans to sit in the seating bowl or outfield grass in socially distanced squares. Blankets and lawn chairs are allowed on the field. Only 1,500 tickets will be available for this event. Gates open at 6 p.m. All moviegoers will be required to wear facemasks.

VHS ninth-grade basketball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s ninth-grade boys basketball team are scheduled for Aug. 23-24, from 5 to 6:15 p.m. each day at the Vicksburg Junior High gym. Players must bring their own water bottle, as well as completed physical and concussion forms. The forms are available at vwsd.org.
