The United Way of West Central Mississippi announced Monday the 2020 Supper on the ‘Sip has been canceled due to concerns with the COVID-19 virus.

“After much discussion and prayers, we have decided to cancel the event. Safety is our main concern and we do not see how it would be possible to hold this event during this pandemic.” Ali Hopson, Supper on the ‘Sip Co-Chairwoman said.

This year would have marked the third year for the event, which is held on the Old Highway 80 Bridge and features booths from dozens of area restaurants, and a number of the United Way’s partner agencies. The event has served as a kickoff for the United Way’s annual campaign, with participating agencies receiving a portion of the monies raised from the event.

“This event is not only good for our partner agencies and sharing the United Way story, but it also is a huge pull for the tourism industry,” Kami May, Director of Marketing and Community Relations said.

Last year’s event attracted more than 1,000 people, featured 22 food and beverage vendors and raised more than $38,000.
