Vicksburg man killed, four others injured, in wreck near Steele Bayou

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has confirmed a Vicksburg man was killed Sunday at the Steele Bayou Control Structure.

Early reports indicate Billy L. Gainey, 65, of Vicksburg was killed, while four others in the 1993 GMC truck were injured and transported to area hospitals.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the truck, traveling northbound on MS-465, left the roadway and struck an embankment. Three passengers, who were riding in the bed of the truck, were ejected. One other passenger, riding in the cab of the truck, was also injured.

The conditions of those passengers were not known.

Gainey, and the passenger riding in the cab, were both wearing seat-belts.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
