Wednesday marked another day of good news involving the spread — or lack thereof — of the COVID-19 virus in Warren County.

Not only did the number of active cases fall to a level not seen since late April, but the Vicksburg Warren School District announced Tuesday that for the week between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4, it saw no new cases among students, staff or teachers.

The District announced their findings Tuesday after sending in their weekly report to the Mississippi State Department of Health.  Thus far, in its three reports filed with the state, the District has only reported one case involving a student.

The Mississippi State Department of Health announced Warren County had one new case of COVID-19, driving down the number of estimated active cases to just 22 Wednesday, the lowest number since April 23. The single case Wednesday also drove down the county’s one-week daily average to 3.6, the lowest since June 2.

Overall, the county has now reported 1,342 cases since the first case was confirmed on March 29. The county has also reported 46 virus-related deaths.

As for the state, Wednesday’s report was another good one as just 426 new cases were confirmed. The state also reported 39 new deaths, but of those, 12 occurred earlier and were added to the total after investigating death certificates.

Since the first case was reported on March 11, the state has now recorded 87,805 cases and 2,623 virus-related deaths. Mississippi ranks 22nd out of the 50 states in the number of COVID-19 cases, and 20th in deaths.
