Flaggs proposing one-way traffic on section of Washington street on weekend nights

Washington Street between Clay and South streets will be one-way under a plan announced by Mayor George Flaggs Jr. Wednesday.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen is expected to vote on the proposal Thursday when it meets to approve the budget.

If approved, the northbound lane of Washington Street, from the intersection of South Street and Washington Street to the intersection of Clay and Washington, will be blocked from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays to prevent vehicles from traveling north on Washington Street.
