Erwin S. Cosey Sr. affectionately known as “Lil Man,” departed this life Tuesday, Sept 15, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Erwin was born in Warren County on Feb. 12, 1939, to the late Andrew “Brock” Cosey and Cora Bell Cosey. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Otis Cosey, Andrew Cosey, Donny Cosey and Ronny Cosey; sisters, Rosa Lee Carter, Lucille Starks and Mae Belle Hill.

Erwin was educated in Warren County Public School District and is a past member of the Warren County Baptist Association.

Erwin was baptized at an early age at the Morning Star M.B. Church. He later became a member of the Mt. Givens M.B. Church and the Old Come and See M.B. Church, where he serves as pastor. Before accepting God’s call on his life to the ministry, he served faithfully for many years as a deacon. Heeding to God’s call, Erwin accepted his call to the ministry on the fourth Sunday in February of 1989. He conducted his first sermon in April 1989 and was ordained in July 1989.

Rev. Erwin Cosey served as pastor at the Morning Star M.B. Church for four years, from October 1992 through October 1996. He became the pastor of the Old Come and See M.B. Church in June 1993, where he continued to serve as their pastor. Under his leadership, the congregation grew. God gave him a vision and they built a new house of worship, which was completed in November 2000. Rev. Cosey is loved and respected by his congregation, family and community.

Erwin leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 62 years, Sarah Eastman Cosey; three sons; Erwin Jr. (Thelma), David (Laurice) and Richard Cosey; one God-son, Fabain Eastman; four daughters, Terri Cosey (Walter Carson), Dianne (Wilbour) Washington, Lynniese (Gregory) Mayfield, and Ava (Eric) Cooley; one God-daughter, Mary Jo Freeman; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Bacon, Dorothy Avance, Barbara Buckley, Debra Hawkins and Linda Cosey; brothers, his twin Earl (Julia) Cosey Sr., Robert (Annie) Cosey and Samuel Howard; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others including the Lyons, Martin, Carter, Eastman, Shelton and Scott families.
