School officials urge everyone ‘stay vigilant’ against COVID-19

Progress reports for many of the students in the Vicksburg Warren School District went out last week, but it appears the best passing grade was reserved for the District itself.

For the third consecutive week, officials with the District reported no confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving a student or personnel over the previous week. The report was filed Monday with the Mississippi State Department of Health.

In the five weeks since the state began requiring schools and school districts within the state to report any positive cases among students or personnel, the Vicksburg Warren School District has reported just one positive case involving a student and three positive cases involving personnel. The District reported in August two incidents where personnel were quarantined due to possible exposure.

“Our schools have done a great job of implementing safety protocols for COVID-19,” Associate Superintendent Dr. Cedric Magee said. “Our teams of administrators, nurses and teachers worked together tirelessly to come up with our reopening plans and we are beyond pleased with our results.”

Magee said even though the District has had a great and safe start to the school year, now is not the time to let up.

“Cases are low and we know we need to stay vigilant in our practices so they stay that way,” Magee said. “I am thankful for the hard work that our schools are doing each day to keep kids and adults safe.”
