Teen wounded after gun goes off

A 16-year-old boy was wounded Saturday in what Vicksburg police have called an accidental shooting.

The shooting was one of two reported Saturday night.

According to police reports, officers responding around 8 p.m. to a call about a shooting at a home on Manship Street arrived to find the teen with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition, police said.

According to a preliminary investigation and eyewitness’ accounts, the teen and his 17-year-old brother were looking at the gun when it went off.

Neither teen was identified and the case remains under investigation.

*About 10 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Merit Health River Region Emergency Room after a 29-year-old man entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his left buttock.
The man told officers he had been walking west on Speed Street from Halls Ferry Road when he was injured.

No additional information was available and the man’s name was not released. The case remains under investigation.
* In another case, a Vicksburg man faces a charge of business burglary after officers arrested him Sunday morning inside Jordan’s in the Vicksburg Mall, 3505 Pemberton Square Blvd.

According to police reports, officers responding to a 4 a.m.  report of a burglary in progress at the store arrived to find an open door. When they entered the store, they discovered Felix Williams, 30, inside pushing a trash cart loaded with a large amount of clothing from the store totaling $25,967.83.
