The Warren County Board of Supervisors on Monday approved a lease agreement with Zayo Group that will generate nearly $50,000 annually for the Vicksburg Bridge Commission.

The easement agreement will allow the Colorado-based company to place a fiber optic cable conduit on the Old Highway 80 Bridge.

The company will pay the county $49,650 in the first year of the agreement, with a 5 percent increase each year thereafter for the length of the 10-year agreement.

Funds from this agreement, like similar agreements the county and commission have with other companies, will be used to fund the operational costs of the Old Highway 80 Bridge. A number of utilities have conduits on the bridge that are used to send their products across the Mississippi River.

The bridge is owned by Warren County under the management of the Vicksburg Bridge Commission and Bridge Superintendent Herman Smith.
