Election officials report ‘great problem’ of large voter turnout

Election officials said they have experienced only one problem so far on this election day — and it is a problem they wish they had every election; great voter turnout.

“We are having an amazing turnout all over the county,” Warren County Election Commission Chairwoman Sarah Dionne said. “The parking lots are full. There are long lines. This is a great problem to have.”

Dionne said election officials have had to request assistance from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Vicksburg Police Department for help in addressing traffic congestion around some polling places.

“We have had great support thus far from both the sheriff’s office and the police department,” Dionne said.

Polls throughout the county opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. Dionne suggested that those who have not voted yet should plan to vote either mid-morning or mid-afternoon when the lines are expected to be shorter.
