Students in the Vicksburg Warren School District were back in class Friday to officially kick off the 2024-25 school year, and plenty of City of Vicksburg officials made the rounds to welcome them back into classrooms.
Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said members of the Vicksburg Fire Department were at schools all over the district with fire trucks in tow to give students a memorable first day.
“The Vicksburg Fire Department welcomed students from Vicksburg Warren School District back to school,” Stamps said. “Engine 9 was present at Sherman Avenue Elementary; Engine 7 was at Bowmar Elementary; Engine 8 was at Dana Road Elementary; and Ladder 15 was at Warrenton Elementary. The fire department extends its best wishes to all students for a safe and successful school year.”
In addition to VFD firefighters and senior leaders Cap. Veron Wolfe, Lt. Lee Roy Anderson and Chief of Training Courtney Reed, Mayor George Flaggs Jr. and Alderman Thomas “T.J.” Mayfield were also spotted out and about welcoming students back to class.
