St. Al’s Edwards runs cross country winning streak to three

Samantha Edwards is finishing her high school cross country career strong.
The St. Aloysius senior clocked a 5-kilometer time of 19 minutes, 57 seconds Saturday to win her third race in a row at the Warren Central Valhalla Invitational.
Edwards added the victory to the ones she picked up at the French Camp Invitational on Sept. 7, and the Forerunners Light It Up Meet on Sept. 14 in Hattiesburg, to continue her impressive winning streak.
She bested 63 other runners Saturday morning. Northwest Rankin’s Grace Hoeniges finished second in 20:16, and then Clinton’s Kaedyn Wilson (20:29), Caroline Henry (20:36) and Riley Moore (21:19) rounded out the top five.
Warren Central’s Cora Lindsay finished 10th overall, in 23:01, and Abigail DeJesus placed 21st in 25:39.
St. Al’s Julia Tuminello was 15th in 24:42 and Luella Lambiotte was 18th in 25:19.
Clinton’s pack gave it the girls’ team title with 38 points. Northwest Rankin was second out of the six teams scored, with 48 points. Brookhaven finished third with 80, St. Al was fourth with 83, and Brandon (127) and Greenville (145) rounded out the team scores.
Warren Central’s Yashira Narvaiz finished ninth out of 69 runners in the junior high race, with a time of 14:16 for the 3,200 meters.
In the varsity boys’ 5K race, Warren Central’s Tyler Bates had a solid fourth-place finish with a time of 19:04.23. Clinton’s Hyrum Boone edged him out by .20 seconds for third place, and Clinton’s Dillon Pittman was just ahead of both of them for second in 19:02.
Brandon’s Taylor Lindsey blew away the field with a winning time of 17:50.
William Roberson was St. Al’s top runner, with a time of 21:12 that was good for 28th place out of 118 runners.
Casey Brown finished 40th for Vicksburg High, with a time of 21:43.
Warren Central’s Jameson Streif finished seventh in the 3,200-meter junior high race, with a time of 11:50.
Clinton won the boys’ varsity team title with 27 points. Warren Central had 197 to finish seventh out of the 13 scored teams, and St. Al placed ninth with 218 points.
