Warren Central sweeps team titles at MHSAA North Half Swimming Championship

For the second year in a row, Warren Central ruled the pool at the MHSAA North Half Championships swim meet.
The Vikings won 13 events and both the girls and boys Class 2 team titles at the meet in Cleveland. The boys’ team won the North State title for the second year in a row, while the girls got the top trophy after finishing second in 2023.
Class 2 includes teams in Classes 5A and 6A in other sports.
Warren Central’s boys’ team won seven events and finished with 135 points. Pontotoc was second in the team standings, with 86 points, and South Panola was third with 69.
Jacob Byrd won the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Ashtin Wallace was also a double winner, in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard butterfly, and Ace Orosco won the 100 breaststroke.
The Vikings were also victorious in the 200 yard medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Byrd, Orosco, Wallace and James McKenna were on the medley relay. Byrd, Wallace, McKenna and Thomas Kilroy made up the freestyle relay team.
For the girls, Avery Greer won twice in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle, and was part of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Kara Rowe won the 100 yard butterfly, and the Lady Vikes went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle with Addison Billings winning and Ella Opperman finishing second. Billings, Rowe and Opperman joined Greer on the winning relay teams.
The Lady Vikes finished with 117 points to edge Pontotoc for the team title. Pontotoc had 109 points, and Lafayette was third with 82.
Warren Central will now head to the MHSAA Class 2 state meet on Oct. 19 in Tupelo.
