Nick Anderson reached a milestone and earned a piece of Canadian Football League history Saturday.
The Vicksburg High alum recorded seven tackles in the Edmonton Elks’ 23-18 victory over Calgary, giving him 101 in his rookie season in the league.
Anderson’s teammate Nyles Morgan also reached the 100-tackle mark, making them the second set of teammates in CFL history to achieve the feat. Morgan has 102 tackles.
Morgan and Anderson are also just the fifth and sixth players in the Elks’ 75-year history to reach 100 tackles. They rank first and second, respectively, in the CFL in tackles this season.
The Elks (6-11) will face the Toronto Argonauts (9-7) in their season finale on Friday, Oct. 25.
Anderson had one sack in Saturday’s victory, in addition to his tackles. The linebacker has three sacks this season, along with one interception and two forced fumbles, and is a leading contender for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie award.
The league’s awards will be announced on Nov. 14.
