Carolyn Gillentine Martin

Carolyn Gillentine Martin passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, in her home in Slidell, Louisiana surrounded by her loved ones. She was 83 years old.

Carolyn was born in Tupelo, Mississippi to the late Aaron and Wanna Gillentine and moved to Vicksburg as a child. She graduated from Cooper High School and attended the Mississippi University for Women.

She married her high school sweetheart, T Martin, in 1961 and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Tiffany Martin, in 2010. She is survived by her husband and daughters, Shelly Gilbrech and husband, Rick, Margaret Olander and husband, Tucker, and five grandchildren, Ryan and Brandon Gilbrech, Tyler and Thomas Olander, and Maggie McMichael; and one great-grandchild, Brooks McMichael, along with her adored cat, Sunny Boy.

She was a member of the Crawford Street Methodist Church and remained close to all her high school “Greenie” friends throughout her life. She was an avid donor to many charities and had a great love for animals, flowers, Elvis and dancing.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Vicksburg Monday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. officiated by her son-in-law, Rick Gilbrech.
