Warren Central only got one goal Tuesday, but it was enough.
Luke Bond scored two minutes into the second half, and Warren Central made it stand up to beat Pearl 1-0 in a boys soccer game.
Bond’s goal was a header off a corner kick by Duke Esparza.
Warren Central keeper Jamarian Shelly made six saves, including three in a five-minute span late in the second half. Charlie Esparza and Jackson Holden provided solid defense in front of Shelly.
Pearl outshot Warren Central 9-8 despite playing short-handed after a one of its players was red-carded for a hard foul.
Warren Central reached the first checkpoint of its season with an impressive 8-1-1 record. It won’t play again until after Thanksgiving, when it hosts Vicksburg High on Dec. 3 in its MHSAA Region 2-6A opener.
In Tuesday’s girls game, Pearl beat Warren Central 4-0.
