The Vicksburg Post is pleased to announce its historical archives have been digitized and are now available online for all print and digital subscribers.
The digitized files are full pages, including the headlines, stories, photos and advertisements as they were originally published in the newspaper. Readers can view, search, clip and share treasured memories. The archives are searchable via keyword, date and location.
“We are thrilled to be able to conveniently offer the vast historical archives of The Vicksburg Post to our readers as value added to their subscriptions,” Post publisher Catherine Hadaway said. “From the birth of babies and marriage announcements to major news events occurring in Vicksburg’s rich history, we are happy to unlock the vault of our community’s story through this project, which has been about four years in the making.”
Historic archives available online include all editions from 1883 to 2022. Readers can access the archives from the “archives” link on the navigation bar at vicksburgpost.com.
Access to the archives is free of charge for subscribers as part of their active subscription. Print readers must have an online account to access the archives and can email customerservice@vicksburgpost.com if they need help setting one up. An email address is required for setting up an online account.
“We are very excited to now offer this service to our community,” Post General Manager and Executive Editor Blake Bell said. “Our readers are very invested in this area and routinely inquire about past stories ranging from coverage of serious issues to milestones and accomplishments documented by The Post. We are so happy years of hard work will now allow for easier access to our archives.”
The Post partnered with Ancestry/newspapers.com to make this digitization project possible. Hadaway said she would also like to thank Vicksburg Historic Foundation Executive Director Nancy Bell and Catfish Row Museum Executive Director Linda Fondren for asking about the archives and encouraging the newspaper to find a way to digitize them.
