The annual Chili for Children Cook-Off will be put on simmer in 2025, but things will heat back up in 2026.
Event organizer Sabrina Lynn, of The Radio People, said there were several reasons for skipping 2025, one of which is a planned reboot of the event that will include the use of more technology.
“We want to bring the event into the future with things like links to register your teams and links where volunteers can sign up to help,” she said.
Lynn is also hoping to get more of the community involved, which she hopes will bring in additional volunteers.
“I need some help. I need some community involvement so I am going to be looking for committee leaders so I can divvy up some of the responsibilities,” she said.
Lynn just underwent knee replacement surgery, which is another reason the Chili for Children Cook-Off was postponed a year. She said she is healing but would not be fully recovered by the time the cook-off was scheduled in early 2025.
“I was not sure my knee was going to let me go 25,000 steps,” she said, which is what she puts in on the day of the event.
But knee surgery will not keep Lynn from beginning work on the 2026 Chili for Children Cook-Off, which is already scheduled for Feb. 1.
“The planning is going to start very soon in 2025,” she said.
