Saturday may have been the warmest day in weeks for Warren County, but the water in the Vicksburg Country Club pool was still 50 degrees, “at best,” Polar Plunge “Fun”draiser organizers said as community members took turns jumping in to raise money for a local organization.
Jonathan Parrish said the idea for the fundraiser came together in just over a week and raised at least $5,000 for Jacob’s Ladder, a nonprofit organization in Vicksburg that serves adults with special needs.
“It’s crazy that we have this many people out here to support this, considering we just kind of thought it up last week,” Parrish said Saturday afternoon. “We have had people making videos and people calling other people out to jump in and pledging money for it. And some people are giving above and beyond that, but we think we have a baseline of $5,000 now.”
While more than a dozen people took the plunge Saturday, an official total for the funds raised was not yet available Saturday afternoon.
