Vickie Bailey on Monday officially announced her candidacy for Vicksburg’s Ward 2 alderman seat in the 2025 municipal election in June.

“As a member of this community, I have witnessed both the challenges and the potential that Vicksburg holds,” Bailey said. “I am committed to leading our city towards a future where every citizen, young and old, Republican and Democrat, can thrive in a safe, vibrant, and prosperous environment. With 57 years of deep-rooted commitment to Vicksburg, I bring a wealth of experience, integrity, and a vision for a brighter future for all residents.”

“My campaign stance/promises has not changed; they are still focused on quality service, strong work ethics, and a heartfelt dedication to the people of Vicksburg,” she said. “My leadership aims to propel the city to the forefront as a model community with a thriving economy, state-of-the-art education, and a safe, wholesome environment for families and businesses.”

Bailey said her plan includes:

1. Community Safety and Crime Reduction: Implement strategic initiatives to combat lawlessness and enhance public safety; Collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations to create safer neighborhoods.

2. Economic Development and Job Creation: Foster a thriving economy by supporting local businesses and attracting new investments; Develop training programs to equip residents with skills for the modern workforce.

3. Education and Youth Empowerment: Advocate for state-of-the-art educational resources and facilities; Launch mentorship and development programs to prepare the next generation for success.

4. Community Unity and Engagement: Encourage collaboration across political lines to address the needs of all residents; Promote inclusive community activities that bring people together.

5. Infrastructure and Environmental Sustainability: Invest in infrastructure improvements for a more connected and efficient city; Implement sustainable practices to preserve Vicksburg’s natural beauty.

6. Fiscal Responsibility: Ensuring projects are cost-effective and do not burden taxpayers; Reduced spending and balanced budgets.

“My campaign is built on the belief that Vicksburg can and will do better with my leadership,” Bailey said. “My vision is for a Vicksburg where lives are safe, families and businesses are protected, and the community thrives as a united force. Together, we can build a future where everyone has the opportunity to live, work, and grow old gracefully in a city we are all proud to call home.”

Alex Monsour is the incumbent alderman for Ward 2. He officially filed paperwork to qualify for re-election earlier in January.
