Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. and Vicksburg Fire Department Associate Fire Chief Trey Martin took the Polar Plunge Challenge Monday afternoon at the city pool.
Donations from the event go to Jacob’s Ladder, a Vicksburg-based nonprofit that services adults with special needs.
“I thought it was for a good cause. I’ve always supported Jacob’s Ladder, and I want to continue to support them,” Flaggs said. “In my family, I have some people with challenges and disabilities, so I like them and I’ll always be dedicated to them.”
Flaggs and Martin accepted the challenge, which was given by state Sen. Briggs Hopson of Vicksburg.
“It’s a great cause,” Flaggs said after taking the dip. “I’m Honored. And if I had to do it again, I’d do it again.”
Flaggs and Martin continued the Polar Plunge challenge after a fundraiser for Jacob’s Ladder held in January at the Vicksburg Country Club raised more than $10,000 for the organization.
Officials at Vicksburg City Hall said the new total of funds raised hasn’t yet been tabulated, adding that both Flaggs and Martin may still challenge others in order to keep the plunges coming.
