Billings sets a record, VSA shines at Frosty Fins Invitational

The Vicksburg Swim Association’s winter season continued with another outstanding meet.

The VSA won eight events, set one team record, and had 44 personal-best swims among its 17 swimmers at the 2025 Makos Frosty Fins Invitational Feb. 2 in Flowood.

Addison Billings was the record-breaker, as she swam to victory in the 11-12-year-old girls’ 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 13 minutes, 0.84 seconds.

Billings also won the 50 yard freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly in her age group, with respective times of 27.76, 33.61 and 32.70 seconds.

Other VSA winners were Ella Opperman in the 13-14-year-old girls’ 200 yard freestyle, with a time of 2:29.31; Ace Orosco in the 15-and-over boys 200 yard breastroke, in 2:48.62; and Kitson McComas in the 8U boys 50 yard breaststroke.

Jacob Byrd, Mason Carpenter, Mason Poole, Strickland Stanton, Shelby Williams and Titus Williams all had top-three finishes. As a team, the VSA totaled 19 top-three performances.

The Killer Whales will next compete in the MSI Short Course State Championships, Feb. 13-16 in Biloxi.
