The Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) announced Sunday the man wanted for allegedly opening fire from a vehicle while traveling down Interstate 20 in January has been captured.

Chief of Police Penny Jones said 18-year-old Alvontae White is now in custody and will be arraigned Monday morning.

In January, Jones said Keunte Bell and Altraveon White had both been charged with felonies in connection with the incident, which took place when White’s brother Alvontae White allegedly opened fire on a vehicle traveling behind theirs on I-20.

Jones said VPD believes an “ongoing dispute” led to the incident, which also led to one victim sustaining a gunshot wound to the arm.

Jones said Keunte Bell, 17, is being charged as an adult with armed robbery, two counts aggravated assault and drive-by shooting, and is being held on a total bond of $750,000. At the time of the incident, Bell was out on bond and wearing an ankle monitor in connection with a previous aggravated assault charge in a separate shooting at the City Pavilion in June 2024, which also saw him charged as an adult.

Jones said it appeared Bell’s ankle monitor was not charged at the time of the incident in January.

Altraveon White also faces two counts of aggravated assault in connection to the January shooting, and is being held on a total bond of $400,000.

Jones said Alvontae White was arrested after VPD received a tip and pulled over a vehicle White was a passenger in.
