Warren Central won’t wait to try and punch its ticket to the MHSAA Class 6A soccer championship game.
Because of the threat of rain and thunderstorms, both the girls and boys North State championship games were moved up one day to Monday.
The Lady Vikes (18-5-1) will play Saltillo (20-1-1) for the girls’ North State championship at 5 p.m. The Vikings (18-2-2) and Center Hill (13-8) will meet for the boys’ North State title at 7 p.m. Both games are at Warren Central’s Viking Stadium.
Tickets are $10 and are available through GoFan.co.
The games were originally scheduled for Tuesday, but heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to move into Central Mississippi that morning and linger into Thursday morning.
After his team beat Neshoba Central 6-0 in a second-round game on Saturday, Warren Central girls’ coach Jeremy Lawrence said the options were to play Monday before the rain, or wait until after it cleared on Thursday. Both, he said, had advantages and disadvantages as far as having quick turnarounds.
The Class 6A championship games are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15, at Germantown High School. The girls will play at 4 p.m. and the boys at 6.
“Either way it doesn’t leave us much rest,” Lawrence said. “So right now it’s all about finding our touches, getting our energy levels up, recovering, and then hoping we can perform the same way.”
Warren Central’s softball game against Madison Central, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has also been moved to Monday. It will begin at WC’s Lucy Young Field at 6:15 p.m., with the junior varsity game starting at 5.
