Baseball Roundup: St. Al steamrolls Pelahatchie; VHS wins opener; Port Gibson sweeps PCA

- St. Aloysius baseball player Keller Bradley was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and had nine strikeouts in four innings pitched, in a 14-1 win over Pelahatchie on Monday.
St. Aloysius erupted for 10 runs in the third inning to steamroll Pelahatchie 14-1 on Monday and earn its first baseball win of the season.
The first seven batters reached base for St. Al (1-1) during its big inning. Carson Smith had two hits, including a bases-clearing double, while Keller Bradley and Clark Hobson had RBI singles.
Smith finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. William Roberson singled, walked, drove in two runs and scored two more.
Laken Bradley, Robert Lee and Walt Andrews also scored two runs apiece.
Keller Bradley was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and also had nine strikeouts in four innings pitched. He walked two batters, but did not allow a hit or a run.
St. Al will play East Rankin Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Bazinsky Field, and then go to Pelahatchie Friday at 6 p.m.
Vicksburg 15, Raymond 13
Vicksburg High squandered most of a 10-run lead against Raymond on Monday, but hung on to win its season opener.
The Gators scored three runs in each of the first two innings, then five more in the third to take an 11-1 lead. Raymond scored four times in the bottom of the third, then six runs in the sixth to pull to within 13-11.
Vicksburg got two needed insurance runs in the top of the seventh, on an RBI double by Kolten Thomas and a run-scoring balk, to go back up by four runs.
Raymond’s Brandon Hudson hit an RBi double and scored in the bottom of the seventh, but the Gators were able to escape the jam with the win.
Peyton Calvin was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored for Vicksburg. Mincer Minor was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored, while Nick Carson and Kaleb Doss scored three runs each.
VHS pitchers Calvin, Doss and Allan Allen combined for 10 strikeouts.
Hudson was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored for Raymond. Xavier Conley had four RBIs.
Vicksburg is scheduled to play two more road games this week — Thursday at 6 p.m. at North Pike, and Friday at 7 p.m. at Hattiesburg.
Port Gibson 4, Porter’s Chapel 3

Akeem Wells went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Michael Evans was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Port Gibson beat Porter’s Chapel Academy 15-9 in game two of a doubleheader to complete a sweep on Monday.
Port Gibson won the first game, 4-3, by scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning. Laquaveon Derby led off with a single and scored on a ground out by Braylon Carter.
Derby also singled, walked, and scored twice in the game. Evans pitched six innings and had six strikeouts.
PCA pitcher Chad Fuson also pitched six innings and had 13 strikeouts. At the plate, he reached base three times and scored twice.
Game two was a slugfest. Port Gibson jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, then tacked on eight more in the third to go up 13-2. Porter’s Chapel rallied in the fourth and fifth, but didn’t get closer than the final score.
Centrell Hedrick had 10 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings pitched for Port Gibson.
For PCA, Fuson and Conley Johnston had three RBIs apiece. Evan Gordon scored two runs, and Coltin Hancock had one RBI and scored a run.
Porter’s Chapel will next play Feb. 18 at Park Place Christian Academy in Pearl, at 4:30 p.m. PCA’s game at Cathedral, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed until Feb. 27.
Port Gibson will play Hazlehurst Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
